Served as a religious and public place.

El Cenote Sagrado

This cenote was an important site for pilgrimages and offerings.  Everything from gold, copper, tobacco, flint, shell, wood and human bones have been recovered from here.

The Ossuary or Tomb of the High Priests

Possibly used for public presentations for  the "Lords of Chichen Itza."

El Mercado

Possible use as a market or plaza.

 

 

 

 

Ball Court

Ball Games were played in this court. Warrior Teams would try and hit the ball through small basket like holes on the wall.

The losing team's captain would lose his life.

Las Monjas (The Nunnery)

Place of study

Castillo

The Castillo is in the center of Chichen Itza.  It acted as the central place for public presentations.  The acoustics are amazing once your reach the top of the Castillo.

Plataforma de los Craneos o Tzompantli

This platform was used to exhibit the bare skulls of sacrificed prisoners and enemies.
